BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

1995 - 1998 KVAERNER TECHNOLOGY, Hertfordshire

Kvaerner Technology is the design consultancy of Kvaerner Construction, one of the UK’s largest civil engineering contractors.

Project Engineer currently working on:

Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich, London: I manage the team undertaking the design of a new 40,000m2, 3 storey ward block, a new 3000m2 Mortuary and Pathology unit and a new Medical Records and Sterilization Unit.

Previous Projects:

Swimming pool complex, North Aston, Oxfordshire: Addition of a new wing to an existing 18th century Jacobethan Mansion. Overall project design responsibility, including design concepts, coordination with client, architect, services engineers and contractor working to very tight programme

Sports City Project, Beirut, Lebanon: This project involved the design of a new 50,000 seat national stadium and 5,000 seat arena. I was responsible for design and design coordination of the arena, as well as technical review of specialist sub-consultant’s designs.

Piling gantry, Dahej, India: structural assessment of a 100m long steel piling gantry. This required the modeling of the structure, visiting the site for testing and inspection, and presenting my recommendations for remedial measures to the client.

Second Tagus Crossing Project, Lisbon, Portugal: I spent 9 months working on site in Lisbon as the Deputy Design Manager and QA Manager for the design company. I was responsible for the coordination between the design team in London and the construction management team in Lisbon. I was also responsible for site designs and had to liaise between Trafalgar House Technology and the other design teams in Lisbon, Paris and Lyon.

A12 - M11 Link Road, Hackney, London: Responsible for a 6 man design team working on the design of temporary bridges to a very tight programme.

Aden Free Zone Port, Yemen: Preliminary design of a 700m long quay wall.

Izmit crossing, Turkey: Conceptual design of the main pier foundations in 50m deep water.

Norra L�nken ring road, Stockholm, Sweden: Team leader responsible for the preliminary design of cut and cover tunnels, bridges and other associated structures.

 

1990 - 1995 BECHTEL LIMITED, Hammersmith

Bechtel is one of the world’s largest engineering contractors. Bechtel Limited is the UK division specialising in the design and construction of petro chemical and process plants in Europe, Asia and the Middle East

Some of the projects I worked on include:

Saudi Aramco Ras Tanura Refinery, Saudi Arabia: Lead Structural Engineer and CAD coordinator responsible for the design of 10,000 tonnes of steelwork and associated foundations.

ADNOC OGD Project, Abu Dhabi: Engineer working on the design of structural steel, foundations and external works for a $1.8billion onshore gas development project

Umm Shaif Onshore Gas Development Project, Abu Dhabi: Engineer responsible for the design of various structures and foundations

Crystal Polymers Project, Humberside: Design of various structures

I was also the Technical Specialist for several computer programmes including an in house foundation design programme I helped develop.

 

1989 OSCAR FABER, Hertfordshire

Before returning to University for my final year I worked for 3 months for Oscar Faber as a Design Engineer in their St Albans Office primarily involved in the design of office blocks.

1988 - 1989 BALFOUR BEATTY, various sites

I worked on two sites as a Site Engineer during my Industrial Placement Year. BP’s Wytch Farm Development Project, Dorset and Corsham Underground Computer Centre for the MOD, Wiltshire. I was responsible for general site engineering tasks such as quality control, setting out, programming and progressing work. At Corsham I was also responsible for a batching plant for a slipforming operation.

1987 KINGSTON UNIVERSITY, various sites

I worked on two geotechnical research projects, one on the Isle of Wight and the other in Selbourne, Hampshire, where I helped install geotechnical instruments.

Technology

Extremely computer literate, and can use all major engineering and office automation software. I have used many civil engineering applications such as STAAD III, STRAP, MicasPlus, AutoCAD, Microstation, and Frameworks. I have given training courses on several of these programmes. I can programme in Visual Basic and have helped develop Civil Engineering Applications
